Frequently Asked Questions

What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent Makeup, also known as Cosmetic tattooing, Micropigmentation, PMU and SPMU, is a form a tattooing. Pigment is implanted into the epidermis layer of the skin to mimic the look of hair, tint or makeup. Permanent Makeup is designed to gradually fade over time and will require maintenance. The pigment is implanted into the skin with the tip of a very small tattoo needle, although the process differs from traditional tattooing in that the pigment is not placed as deep into the skin, and typically slightly different inks are used.

What will happen at my PMU appointment?

After arrival we will start by going through a consent form and a thorough consultation where we will address all questions & concerns, discuss shape, colour & style down to every aspect of your preferences and what you can expect. Once we’re both happy to proceed, your brows / lips will be measured out and remapped to the new shape, you will then have the opportunity to make any adjustments before the treatment starts, once we begin tattooing you will be numbed at regular intervals to ensure you’re as comfortable as possible. Before leaving you’ll be given aftercare cream and sent an in depth email on aftercare. You can expect the first appointment to take anything up to 3 hours.

Is everyone suitable for Permanent Makeup?

While the machine technique of pmu is suitable for all skin types, there are a few contraindications for all permanent makeup:

-Pregnant/ Breastfeeding

-Under 18’s

-Any skin conditions in the treatment area

-Any serious health conditions must be discussed with a doctor first

-Currently or recently undergone Chemo/ Radiotherapy

-Taking medication included but not limited to ACCUTANE, BLOOD THINNERS, ANTIBIOTICS

If you are unsure about any conditions that are not listed, please get in touch to discuss before booking.

Is Micropigmentation the same as Microblading?

No, modern methods of Permanent Makeup involve a machine similar to a tattoo machine which uses a very small needle in which only the very tip perforates the skin hundreds of times per minute, whereas microblading uses a small blade made up of needles to slice through the skin and make small, hairstroke shaped cuts which are filled with ink. Although you can get a very aesthetically pleasing result with microblading initially, unfortunately it is prone to leaving scarring in the skin as the method is much more traumatic to the skin’s integrity, it is also more prone to early fading, and undesirable colour changes in ink due to scarring. Machine methods of Permanent Makeup are considered more up to date and advanced as they have more predictable results, are suitable for a wider range of clients and skin types, have longer lasting results and will not cause any scarring when done correctly.

What can I expect after my Permanent Makeup procedure?

For eyebrows you can expect a total healing time of anywhere from 7-14 days, and for lips 4-5 days. Your PMU will initially appear much darker/ brighter/ more artificial looking when it’s fresh, after the initial period you can expect some light scabbing which will dry out and naturally flake off. Once the scabs have lifted the skin will take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to go through full cell turnover when you will see the true results. PMU must be kept as DRY & CLEAN as possible during healing to avoid infection. You will be given aftercare cream and in-depth instructions on how to care for your brows / lips at your appointment.
